Erasmus+ Mobility of Youth Workers

Designing for water, energy and food

Dates: 10 - 24 April 2023 (NEWLY UPDATED)

This 13-day training activity, hosted in our welcoming food forest in the South Peloponnese, tackles in depth the topic of energy inputs and outputs of space - namely water, energy and food - and sustainable approaches to their design and management across different scales of habitat (house/farm/organisation/workspace etc.). Guided by an internationally recognized trainer, Giuseppe Sannicandro, participants will broaden their knowledge, skills and attitudes in terms of approaches and practical tools to redesign their spaces and minimise their ecological footprint. Participants will learn to analyse and redesign elements, such as water origins and destinations within a space, while reintegrating waste streams into the landscape. How to recycle the energy inputs of different spaces, including water and food, will be a main focus of this training. Meanwhile, we will collectively dive into topics such as soil fertility, agroforestry, dry toilets, compost, nutrition and holistic design. The training aims to support and facilitate accelerated learning and collaboration among youth workers and youth leaders of the numerous European regenerative initiatives partnering in this project.

Mixing theory and practice of innovative approaches to non-formal education, this training proposes to enhance and reinforce the competences of 35 youth workers and leaders from 7 different countries, 7 of whom with fewer opportunities, working in the sectors of ecological and social regeneration. The training aims to situate participants’ own work within regenerative policy on a regional scale and to foster further awareness raising around the topics within their communities. Participants will also get a chance to structure their partnerships and to broaden their network, both locally and across Europe. Furthermore, participants will be empowered to put into practice the training outcomes in the projects they are involved in and to transmit efficiently the experience and multidisciplinary skills gained to the audiences they work with, and especially youth facing geographical, economic obstacles, or educational obstacles.

About the trainer

Giuseppe Sannicandro

Co-founder of Naumanni and Regen in Italy

The principal facilitator for this training will be Giuseppe Sannicandro (Italy), co-founder of Naumanni Association, Regen Association and tutor for Permaculture Diploma, recognized by the Italian Permaculture Academy (Accademia Italiana di Permacultura).

He graduated in Philosophy with a thesis about the De-growth Movement and one about Ecology, and he obtained a Degree in Permaculture Design in Tenerife in 2015. Since 2012 he studies designs and teaches Permaculture in Italy, Greece, Switzerland, Slovenia, Spain, Uganda and Brasil.

He designs and offers consultancies for multifunctional farms, eco-villages and urban permaculture projects among others. Moreover, he organizes and teaches PDCs (certified 72 hour Permaculture Design Course), as well as courses and workshops about water management, key-line design, earthworks, soil improvement, regenerative agriculture, gardening, agroforestry and food forest.
