The youth exchange ‘’Earth, me and all it can be’’ aimed to gather 25 participants and 5 group leaders from Croatia, Greece, Portugal, Serbia, and the Republic of North Macedonia. We focus on giving new chances to young people with fewer opportunities, who have an interest in sustainable living by involving them in eco-friendly activities where they acquire confidence in themselves through non-formal learning in a uniquely multicultural environment.
The project was a joint initiative of the members of 5 partner organizations: Institute of Youth Power (CRO), Southern lights (GK), Experimentaculo (PT), EEG (SR) Kreator (NM) who agreed to organize this project after recognizing the existing needs of their peers and young people who they work with on a daily basis. Young people that are in contact with our NGOs have expressed the desire to take more actions in relation to environmental preservation. At the last assembly of IYP in December, the young people in the NGO voted for organizing more activities related to sustainable living since they recognize how endangered our planet is and how small changes in our everyday life can make a difference.
During the project, the participants deepened their knowledge and understanding of environmental issues, develop critical thinking and positive attitudes towards the preservation of nature, analyze problems like plastic production, endangered wildlife, pollution issues, eco-production of food, lifestyle choices related to food consumption. Furthermore, they worked in teams to find concrete solutions to those problems and to promote their discoveries to their peers and to the public. Also, participants had the chance to interact with locals who run farms (eco-products), build birdhouses (natural wildlife preservation), and clean green areas (recycling, taking care of garbage) in the city of Karlovac and around its rural surrounding areas to get inspired by those stories and to learn about those activities first-hand, by getting involved in these actions to safeguard the environment with the locals.
Aim
- this Erasmus+ YE aimed to gather participants who demonstrate interest in
sustainable living, preferably giving advantage to the youth with fewer
opportunities
- involving participants in eco-friendly activities
- aquiring self confidence and further motivation of participants through nonformal learning in a multicultural environment
- implementing different skills, such as problem-solving, especially related to
environmental issues
- promoting environmental responsibility through active civil participation and
outdoor activities
- improving communication skills and communication in foreign language
through promoting intercultural dialogue
